A Safe Passage 5-Banger
Posted on August 19, 2013
Earlier we mentioned how the Safe Passage signs don’t seem to be working, especially given the weekend’s tally of eight (8) dead and 35 wounded. As of 6pm Monday evening, those signs really don’t seem to be working.
“Five people were shot, one fatally, this evening in the Uptown neighborhood along a Safe Passage route outside a church that was holding a prayer service at the time, officials said.
Police said a white, four-door car pulled up in front of the Uptown Baptist Church at Wilson Avenue and Sheridan Road. Someone from inside the car opened fire at a group of people standing in front of the church, killing one of them and wounding four others, police said.”
In addition to that whole murder thing, the shooter(s) aren’t paying attention to the signage (and they probably don’t have FOID cards either).
“The shooting occurred in an area designated by the Chicago Public Schools as a Safe Passage route for students during the upcoming school year. The car involved in the shooting was also found along the route.”
Finally, it was initially reported that
a scary black rifle was used in this shooting. If so, that would be only the second incident this year involving an AR and only third all year involving an “assault rifle” of any make or model.
UPDATE: They’re now saying that no one has died, just four of the five in critical condition.
